# Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center: Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center provides a vibrant, inclusive space in Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley for all of the region’s LGBTQ+ residents. We produce affirming community programming, and address barriers to care through our LGBTQ+ health programs. We advocate for our community, organize our region’s annual Pride festival and we make the Lehigh Valley more equitable through our LGBTQ+ Education Institute.

The need for increased awareness of mammography needs for LGBT people is clear: Across the country, only about 5% of women have never received a mammogram in their lives; In Pennsylvania, 1 in 5 of LGBT people who are eligible for routine mammograms have never had one (21.2%). Even more shockingly, nearly half of eligible of transgender, non-binary, or genderqueer respondents (49.4%) Pennsylvanians have never had a mammogram - a rate ten times higher than the majority population.

It is also open to clinicians who want to increase competency in this area. Graduate students can attend if they are accompanied by a clinical supervisor for practicum or internship. Otherwise, students cannot observe or join the group.

In order from top to bottom, the colors represent sex, life, healing, sunlight, nature, magic, serenity, spirit. Due to a fabric shortage in the following years, the pink and turquoise stripes were removed and created the six stripe flag that is so recognizable today.

- [Tobacco-Free Initiatives](https://bradburysullivancenter.org/health/tobacco-free/): Tobacco use is among the greatest health challenges facing the LGBTQ+ community and is the leading cause of death in the LGBTQ+ community. As a stigmatized community, LGBTQ+ people have been more vulnerable to targeted marketing. LGBTQ+ tobacco use rates are 40% higher than the general population, and members of the LGBTQ+ community are less likely to be aware of or intend to use smoking Quitlines. Adopting a smoke-free policy disrupts the long history of the tobacco industry targeting the LGBTQ+ community through magazine ads, as well as sponsoring pride festivals and LGBTQ+ nights at bars. Distributing tobacco prevention and cessation resources at pride events also addresses a historically limited access to these health services.

Our community experiences health challenges at increased rates as a result of higher-risk behaviors, which are caused in part by systemic discrimination, minority stress, and familial homophobia or transphobia. Left unaddressed, these challenges lead to worsened health outcomes—making it critical that we take community wellness into our own hands.
